A Few Royal, Noble and Notable Ancestors of Thomas Knowlton Gibson

The purpose of these pages is to identify some of our notable ancestors, through lines that are both historical, mythological and legendary, but not improbable (i.e. our lines to the Royal Houses of Judah, Ptolemy and Constantine the Great). The word mythological does not mean false but rather "to designate the narrative component". Our family has more than 170 legendary lines tracing back to Adam, some more probable than others, though I am certain that we trace back somehow to Adam, so it doesn't matter whether through these lines or some other.  Links are provided to Wikipedia articles for additional reading.  I was recently contacted by a "professional genealogist" who wanted to point out that my legendary lines of descent were, in fact, legendary and that some people might take them as wholly factual (which is why I used the word "legendary" in the first place).  Readers are free to believe them or not.  Legendary implies that they cannot be proved, but are based on medieval or mythological sources.  I would refer such skeptical readers of these pages to the Wikipedia article on Descents from Antiquity, which they may find enlightening.  Descent from medieval and ancient royal families is very possible and probable with almost all colonial families of European descent.  Please do not contact me if you intend to criticize or refute my pages.  There is no point as I am not trying to prove anything.  Our ancestors are listed here to be shared, enjoyed and appreciated by those reading these pages.  I have found more than 2000 royal or noble ancestor with more than 120 different lines to Charlemagne, "the father of Europe and the western world."

Our family is directly descended from at least thirty Mayflower passengers, an extremely unique lineage.

I am a 9th cousin to both George and Laura Bush as we are all direct blood descended of James Withers (1680-1746) and his wife Elizabeth Keene (1682-1769).
I am also a 10th cousin to Laura Bush through Philip Pendleton (1654-1721) and his wife Isabella Hurt (1654-1724).
That would make Chris and Jon triple cousins to the Bush twins, Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Welch Bush (b. 1981)

(George and Laura are also related to each other through two other family lines as are my parents).

I have also uncovered four other relations to George Bush, and distant and not so distant relations with at least

27 other presidents including Presidents Jackson, Coolidge, Roosevelt and General Geo.Washington.

Additionally, I am an 10th cousin  to both HRH Prince Charles of Wales, and the former Princes Diana of Wales.
Chris and Jon are double cousins to
Princes William and Harry.

Here is another documented and well researched royal line of ancestry.

Continue as listed on Knowlton genealogy page.

Note: William Knowlton is documented as the son of Richard Knowlton and Elizabeth Cantize, however

recent genealogical exploration does question the immediate connection and family lineage.

The connection probably originates from an over zealous "professional genealogist" back in the 19th century.

There are more than 30 million Americans with Royal or Noble ancestors, about one in ten, although most don't know it.

Almost all of us have at least one ancestral line to Charlemagne or Charles Martel, and most of us have multiple lines.

There are about the same number of Americans with documented Mayflower ancestors, and again, most don't know it.

Mathmatically, it is extremely rare to have more than ten Mayflower ancestory.

Are there any others besides Thomas, Christopher and Jonathan Gibson?

Do you have more than six, direct blood related, Mayflower ancestors?

If you do, please consider joining SAMMA, the Society of Americans with Multiple Mayflower Ancestors.

SECTION I - ANCIENT & MYTHICAL, from the beginning of time to about 100BC.

This section should NOT be taken too seriously as t
here is very little documented evidence of ancestry.
It is included for interest and amusement to be shared and enjoyed by those reading these pages.

SECTION II - CONTINENTAL FAMILIES - MEDIEVAL & RENAISSANCE, from 100BC to 1400.
Arguably, parts of some of the pages in this section, included in this section for convenience, should have been included in the Ancient & Mythical section.
Except for figures of historical importance who are known to have been well researched,

we suggest you view ALL generations before the 15th century with at least some caution.

This applies to ALL genealogical databases (not just ours!).

SECTION III - ENGLAND, SCOTLAND AND WALES, from 1400 to the present.

We suggest you verify ALL generations after the 15th century with reliable sources.
Many professional genealogists, especially in the 19th century, were somewhat 'creative' in their reporting of family histories.

This applies to ALL genealogical databases, especially user submitted family trees.
