Many have asked me about
the dumbest thing I have ever done, and while there are many deeds I'm
embarrassed to admit to, the incident below is certainly near
the top
of the list.
The time was about 11PM
on a Wednesday evening in early 1970's, in the tiny hamlet of Shohola,
Pennsylvania.
Many of us heard the approaching train struggling up the
grade and with more than twenty others watching,
I hopped onto a boxcar ladder about fifteen car back from the front of
a 160
car Erie
Lackawanna freight train, heading northbound alongside the Delaware
River, moving about
15 MPH. After waving goodbye to the group and moving about 70
yards out of
sight around a curve, I moved between two boxcars to the other side of
the train, and jumped off to the ground. In almost complete
darkness, I then ran along side and toward the
back of the train and out of sight of the group watching from the
other side of the train. After passing the location where I
hopped on and continuing to a point about 50 yards south of their
position, I hopped back on the train, again between two boxcars.
I again crossed between the cars, and hanging onto a ladder
yelling something about being caught in a time warp, much to their surprise, I
jumped off of the train right in front of every one. The only
thing the group was able to see was me hopping on the train,
and
then getting off
of the same train, at the same location, about two minutes
later.
To
this day, those watching, have absolutely no idea how I was
able
to jump off of moving train in exactly the same place I had just hopped
onto only two minutes earlier. Many observers truly
believe
they were caught in some kind of time warp or a similar paranormal
event.
