YCP Satellite Telecommunications Center
-----------------------------------------

The Glatfelter Satellite Telecommunications Center offers a wide variety of services.
bullet YCTV-Cable channels 7, 11, and 21, originate in Telecommunications Center.  Comcast supplies programming on the remaining channels on the York College Campus.
bullet Channel 7: A Video Bulletin Board. We are currently using SCALA to generate the Bulletin Board. All members of the York College community are welcome to submit items to be placed on the Bulletin Board and we reserve the right to edit submitted material. One weeks notice of events is appreciated. The more advance notice you give us, the more publicity we are able to give you! The audio on this channel comes from the campus radio station WVYC.
bullet Channel 11: This channel serves a variety of purposes. For the majority of time, channel 11 is being used to bring programming to on-campus students that they normally would not get to see. Over the years we have provided a wide range of material. Some of the channels that we have run include: Much Music, FX, MOR Music, CNNewsource, Scola, Musique Plus, M2. Nasa Select, Sci-Fi Channel, and many more. We have also used our two Satellite Dishes to downlink an incredible variety of programs, for many different York College Professors, and the York Community, covering a wide range of material. We have also run many shows in foreign languages for the YCP Language Department. Most of this programing came from PBS.
bullet Channel 21. We run mtvU (MTV University)  A nice mix of music, News and sports, and various other college oriented programming.
bullet The movies: The Campus Activities Board, in conjunction with the Telecommunications Department, shows movies over channel 11 on a daily basis. All movies are presented in stereo, and the normal showtimes are 1, 7, and 11 pm.
bullet The Telecommunications Department has a longstanding relationship with WITF. A great group of people, and an amazing organization. In addition to providing Central Pennsylvania with Public Television and Radio, they also provide the means for York College to administer the RN-BSN Distance Education Program. This program, in effect since 1989, allows Registered Nurses to continue their education, while remaining at their work place. We have 5 distance Education Sites: Harrisburg Hospital, Chambersburg Hospital, Hanover High School, Carlisle Medical Center, and Holy Spirit Hospital. The entire process is accomplished using microwave, and ITFS, for a one-way video, two-way audio communications link. For more technical details on how the system works, please e-mail Telcom..
