The Importance of Baccalaureate Education

Nursing has always been an exceedingly challenging profession, but never more   so than now, when patients are sicker, staffing is tighter, and technology seems to increase in complexity almost daily. Contemporary nurses must also contend with a patient population that is more multi cultural than ever before. Courses developed specifically for you, the Professional Nurse, can help you keep pace with these changes and deliver high quality care in the setting of a health care delivery system that is constantly evolving. Moreover, in the course of your baccalaureate education in nursing at York College, you will build on skills and abilities you already possess to position yourself to take full advantage of the many professional opportunities that will open to you once you have earned your degree.

The Faculty in the Department of Nursing is committed to providing Registered Nurses with the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with a major in Nursing. Our program, also known as the RN to BS program, was established in 1982, and we have been steadily refining and improving it since that time. We have worked hard to build an attractive and realistic course of study for RNs. Our program is exceptional in its flexibility and reflects our sincere desire to remove as many barriers to RN to BS education as we can. Consequently, our students may transfer in credits previously earned at other institutions, take additional courses at other institutions, and earn credits via CLEP and Excelsior (Regent’s) examinations. A new, and very exciting addition to our program is the RN to MS option for RNs who wish to earn a master’s degree in Nursing as quickly as possible.
