Asset Protection Innovations has links to 2 outstanding blogs. these blogs provide questions and answers to security issues, investigative methodology and career planning. One blog is devoted to the protection of houses of worship. The blogs are excellent aids to classroom learning and can be used to facilitate research.

 

Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

The Association provides professional development opportunities to those involved in the investigation and mitigation of fraud. There are local chapters and scholarship opportunities for students.

 

ASIS International

ASIS has over 33,000 investigators, security directors, police chiefs, contract security managers, private investigators, sales representatives and  consultants as members. All members receive a printed  membership directory which is also available online. The directory is broken down by name, location and employer so that finding the person or organization you want is made easier.

Members receive a monthly magazine, SECURITY MANAGEMENT, and a  bi-monthly newsletter,  ASIS DYNAMICS.  Members also receive access to the Information Resource Center and discounts on seminars and books.

There are chapters all around world. These chapters hold monthly meetings where there are speakers on topics ranging from Terrorism to IT Security. Chapters also hold annual one-day seminars. They also offer scholarships to college students studying Security Management, aid with the placement of student interns and assist students in finding employment.

Students can join at reduced rates. Students must go to "Student membership", print out the application and mail it in with a copy of their student ID cards. They should not list any work experience on the application. They  send no money; they will be billed for $25.00 once their membership is activated.

 

Central Pennsylvania Chapter of ASIS International

The Central PA Chapter meets for breakfast the third thursday of each month in Linglestown, PA at the Country Oven restaurant.  This is approximately 5 miles north of Harrisburg on I81. The Central PA Chapter holds an one day seminar each year as well as a golf outing and a Christmas party.

This electronic newsletter has short, informative and  indexed articles on various aspects of security.

International Foundation for Protection Officers

The Foundation (IFPO) provides publications, research (Article Archives), distance education programs and professional certification programs. The Certified Protection Officer (CPO), Certified in Security Supervision and Management (CSSM) and Certified Protection Officer Instructor (CPOI) are all sponsored by IFPO.

There is also a Crime and Loss Investigation Program available. This Program is designed to prepare entry-level investigators for the 'real-world' challenges they will face in background, undercover, Retail Loss Prevention and intelligence investigations.

It is also designed to aid public investigators transition into security and private sector investigation. Note that persons wishing to pursue professional certification for investigators (ASIS's Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) or the Association of Certified Fraud Examiner's Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation may benefit from taking the Crime and Loss Investigation Program.

An additional aim of the Program is marry investigative theory with actual practice.  Academicians, researchers and authors are encouraged to visit the online papers.

 

Through an agreement with the Foundation, York College students receive tuition waivers into IFPO programs. As a result, YCP students may attain significant career-enhancing credentials before they graduate. We incorporate Foundation programs into some of our courses by using IFPO program texts and other resources. There is no charge for the IFPO programs and the texts have already been purchased and utilized within YCP classes. This is a "Spartan" approach!

Classes which incorporate Foundation programs include CJA102, CJA304, CJA305, CJA311 and CJA401.

The Foundation also has an Article Archives which posts research papers on a variety of topics.

 

Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Justice Educators

PACJE holds an annual conference each April which is an excellent - and inexpensive - learning/networking opportunity. Students, faculty and working professionals meet and share.

Personal Protection Consultants, Inc.

PPCI Training provides certification in Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training (OCAT), Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (PATH) and related services.

WGAL.

WGAL 8 is the local news channel. It is Channel  3 on the dial.  WGAL provides an outstanding weather forecast with school closing info.  There is also a host of information on storms, natural disasters and legal issues.  A useful site.

York College Criminal Justice Alumni Association

The CJ Alumni Association is designed to facilitate learning and networking among students, faculty and alumni. The YCP Criminal Justice Alumni Association helps students and alumni link to each other as well as to outside professional organizations.

Seniors should visit this site. They should also keep abreast of what the College Alumni Office has planned.

York College Special Programs Office - Protective Services Programs

The Special Programs Office offers an array of non-credit classes on Report Writing, Investigation, Defensive Tactics, Crowd Management, Customer Service, etc. There are also certification courses on Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (PATH) and OCAT. Instructor Certification courses are also available. 

Discounts are given to York College Students and alumni.

Members of the York College of Pennsylvania Department of Public Safety may also attend certain classes free of charge on a space available basis.
