This course introduces the student to the world of Security and Asset Protection. The central concepts of protection involving Physical Security, Fire protection, Safety and Emergency Management are covered. Legal issues, the Security Industry, historical trends, terrorism and career specialties are addressed. The course uses the PROTECTION OFFICER TRAINING MANUAL and aids in preparing students to take the Certified Protection Officer (CPO) and Crime and Loss Investigation Program examinations.

This course covers an array of crime and loss issues such as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), counter-terrorism, intelligence, investigation, crowd and information management. The course is woven around an assignment involving how to conduct and prepare a Security Survey. There are no examinations; the class consists of interactive discussion, practical exercises and research/writing assignments. CJA311 helps to prepare the participants for both the Certified Protection Officer and Security Supervision and Management Programs.
